Re-Mothering The Latinx/Chicanx Mother

Remothering Yourself To Establish More Deeply Nourishing Relationships

The relationship we have with our madres is one of, if not THE most important, relationship we have in our lives. Yes, even if it isn’t a good one or don’t have an active relationship with them at all.

Whether they’re in our lives or not, the relationship we have with our mamás shapes us.

How we relate to others, how we receive love and support, how we nurture ourselves, and how much we feel like we belong, are all greatly affected by our relationship to our mamis.

So if we’re experiencing issues with connection in our closest relationships, the first area we should seek to heal is our Madre Wound.

Our Healing the Madre Wound Introductory Workshop supports daughters of Latinx/Chicanx ancestry who are looking to identify the nature of their Madre Wound, and begin to heal it so that they can establish more deeply nourishing relationships with themselves, their children, or the children in their lives.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this one-of-a-kind workshop:

What the Madre Wound is in the context of various aspects of Latinx culture, as well as what it means for us as women & mothers
How to navigate your relationship with your mother amid or in response to harmful & hurtful behaviors
How to set boundaries both with yourself and with your mother figure around the relationship you’ve had with them

What our comunidad has to say

I felt seen and understood!

"I felt seen and understood! Like someone finally put into words all I've been working on with my own healing journey. Knowing its ok to experience all the loss I feel yet at the same time feeling proud for showing up and taking care of myself. I felt validated. Loved way Leslie explained the inner parts of ourselves as inner Nina, inner madre, and abuelita or spirit self. I've learned about these different parts of self before from self compassion courses I've taken, but I had heard them like this. It really resonated with me. Such a beautiful presentation!"
Crystal D.

I ended up gaining peace through accessing guidance for healing.

"This workshop is a powerful way to begin identifying the hurt and trauma we experience in our culture. Oftentimes, we do not speak about the unhealthy relationships we have with our mothers for fear of hurting them or guilt of even feeling this way. I loved the "permission" to have a safe space to hear from others like me, that LOOK like me (Latina) and feel that I am not alone in this journey. It also helped me see that there is generational trauma and my mother is also a victim on marianismo. I hope that one day I am able to build courage and confidence to talk to my mother about this so she can begin to her healing and forgiving herself too."
Monica O.

I really loved…how relatable the content is to Chicanas…

“I really loved the authenticity, the love that was put into this work, and how relatable the content is to Chicanas in particular. I feel we are still marginalized within larger healing type communities and it’s so nourishing and validating to have a sacred space like this. Thank you.”
Samantha F.

It helped me understand that it’s time to reclaim myself & heal the cultura with love for myself and my children.

"I really needed this workshop! It came at a time when I felt fear of becoming my own mother or mother figures during my pregnancy. It helped me understand that it’s time to reclaim myself and heal the cultura with love for myself and my children."
Jamie V.F.

I ended up gaining peace through accessing guidance for healing.

"I almost didn't attend because I was afraid of what might surface in me right before giving birth to my third child (due any day now), but I ended up gaining peace through accessing guidance for healing."
Johanna B.

A Sacred Space for Sacred Healing

We're very intentional about the space we create within all of our workshops. Opening up for healing is an sacred and intimate decision. That’s why it’s so important to us to create a wholly intentional space for the people in our workshops. To protect this intimacy space we have requirements about who is invited into the space.

Only the people who fit the following specifications are welcome and invited to participate:

You identify as a Latina/Chicana who has a difficult relationship with your mother or a matriarchal figure, or had one as a child/adolescent
You frequently feel triggered or bothered by harmful & hurtful behaviors from your mother figure, like gaslighting & invalidation
You find yourself wishing your mamá could understand and accept you and your choices instead of criticizing & judging you

MEET YOUR MAESTRA:
LESLIE PRISCILLA

Hola, queridos! Soy Leslie Priscilla. I’m a first-generation non-black Chicana mother to three bicultural children. I’m a descendant of Indigenous Tarahumara Rarámuri and Spanish lineages, and I’ve resided on occupied Tongva and Acjachemen land, a.k.a Orange County, CA, all my life.

I’ve been working with children, caregivers, and familias for over 14 years, both as a teacher and through work with various mental health organizations throughout Orange County. But now I share my medicine with you all through Latinx Parenting, the bilingual organization I founded.

Latinx Parenting is rooted in children’s rights, social & racial justice, and antiracism, and offers family education and support that is trauma-informed, healing-centered, amplifying of our strengths, advocacy, and culturally sustaining of and for the Latinx community and its allies.

Through curated and passionate content, workshops, and courses, Latinx Parenting supports parents, caregivers, and former Latinx children to heal their lineages, raise thriving future ancestors, and create more connection with themselves, their children, and their cultura. My belief is that through this work we can leave a legacy of thriving for our gente. I’m so happy that you’re with us on this journey!
